Matt Riddle opened the TakeOver: XXV event by defeating Roderick Strong in a fine match that set the stage for yet another great show from NXT. After, he went right back to doing what he’s been doing for some time now.
Calling out Brock Lesnar.
Riddle has made it known for a while that he wants to retire Lesnar at WrestleMania, and he reiterated that after TakeOver (via SI.com):
“My main goal is still retiring Brock Lesnar, that’s not changing. I don’t think Brock knows what he’s in for. That match with Roddy was at least five-and-a-half stars.
...
“And I heard Brock’s cashing in on Monday. They’re paying me enough, I could buy a plane ticket. I could be there on Monday, we’ll see. But no matter where I go, we’re going to have some fun along the way.”
It seems unlikely Lesnar vs. Riddle will ever happen, least of all at WrestleMania, but Brock keeps coming back and Matt keeps impressing with each new step in his career. Never say never in pro wrestling and sports entertainment, right?
