Another rumored possibility for the new title WWE is introducing on Raw

WWE.com

In our preview for Raw tonight (May 20), I went with the prevailing wisdom regarding the new championship belt Mick Foley will be introducing on the show. I still think, as long as WWE is insisting on introducing another belt, a Hardcore title would be the best choice. But on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer says he’s heard another possibility - and it makes a lot of sense, too. Or, it at least seems like a very WWE thing to do.

What is it?

“The Hardcore belt, the 24/7 thing? I guess you can go back with that comedy thing, if that’s the idea. I’ve also heard the idea of a Legends championship. I don’t know what that means, I guess it would have to be explained. But those were the two things that were going around. But I have not gotten anything - nothing official, as far as like what it’s gonna be. They’re trying to keep it under wraps.”

Why do I say the Legends title makes sense? As my colleague Kyle Decker said in the Cageside offices, it would give Undertaker and Goldberg something to fight for at Super ShowDown next month in Jeddah. After WWE uses it to impress the Saudis, it could disappear from kayfabe... much like Braun Strowman’s green belt from last year’s Greatest Royal Rumble show.

Even if it sticks around after the June 7 pay-per-view (PPV), a Legends strap would give the 50 year olds WWE brings back for nostalgia pops and to sell Network subscriptions something to do without interrupting ongoing angles with their regular titles.

There’s a Foley connection, too. He’s a Hall of Famer like Goldberg and, eventually, Taker. He also held TNA’s Legends title for a month or so back in 2009.

We’ll find out what direction WWE is going in tonight, but this sounds like a very plausible option.
