WWE Money in the Bank 2019 results: Kofi Kingston defeats Kevin Owens to retain his WWE championship

The story coming into the WWE championship match between Kofi Kingston and challenger Kevin Owens at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) at the XL Center in Hartford, CT, was whether Kofi could be successful without the New Day.

With Big E out with an injury and Kofi asking Xavier Woods to stay backstage, he’d be going it alone. It was teased last Tuesday that KO could have Sami Zayn in his corner, but Zayn was attacked backstage, presumably by Braun Strowman, and taken to a local medical facility. So both men would be going it alone.

Kofi started out by using his speed and agility to stay ahead of Kevin, but a well placed superkick from the challenger gave him the advantage. Owens proceeded to punish Kingston for a while. After Kofi finally got back into it, he tried a top rope dive onto Kevin on the floor but took another superkick instead.

KO tried the superkick a third time but Kofi caught the leg, took Kevin down, and delivered forearms to the back of his head, showcasing a more aggressive side. That flurry was short lived; however, as Owens hit the Pop-Up Powerbomb, though only for a two count.

Kingston soon delivered Trouble in Paradise but the challenger rolled out to the floor. Kofi went and got him back in the ring, but Kevin recovered and delivered a Stunner. Luckily, Kofi was close enough to the ropes to grab it to break the count.

An angry Owens resorted to taking Kingston’s shoes off and throwing them before going to the top of the rope for a senton. The champ got his knees up and then delivered another Trouble In Paradise for the win.

With no one in his corner, Kingston retained his title and proved he can indeed do it alone.
