If you held out hope to the very last second that Kurt Angle’s final pro wrestling match in WWE wouldn’t actually be against Baron Corbin, well, I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news.
Deep into WrestleMania 35 tonight (Sun., April 7, 2019) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in front of an exhausted crowd, Corbin was announced as Angle’s opponent and Kurt simply went down to the ring and wrestled him. It was exactly what WWE said it would be, except for JBL joining up with Michael Cole and Corey Graves on commentary.
After a match that was, well, the kind of match you can expect from someone of Corbin’s talents and someone of Angle’s age, Baron avoided a moonsault and then hit the End of Days for the three count.
And that was that.
Career over.
There were many crowd shots of fans shocked and disappointed by the result. But, hey, that’s the tradition. You do the job on the way out.
After, Angle cut a promo:
“For the past 20 years, I have had the time of my life. In addition to tonight, right here in front of all of you. I want to thank each and every one of you.”
Then he asked for fans to do the “you suck” chant for him one last time.
So long, Kurt. It was a hell of a time.
