In even more of a surprise than Alexa Bliss snapping her fingers and Hulk Hogan appearing, the Universal championship match pitting Brock Lesnar vs. Royal Rumble winner Seth Rollins started the WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view (PPV) tonight (Sun., April 7, 2019) at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. The reason?
Well, in storyline at least, Paul Heyman explained that if they weren’t getting the main event spot they were just going to get the match out of the way early so they could jet off to Las Vegas and hook up with the UFC.
So they had the match.
It was about like you would expect — Lesnar beat the trash out of Rollins early and kept it going to the point it took quite a while before the match officially started. It only turned around when the referee was nearly bumped, ended up out of the ring, and Rollins used a nut shot to turn the momentum. He followed that up with three consecutive Curb Stomps.
That was enough to get the pin to win the Universal championship.
Commentary made sure to mention he did need to use a low blow to win, for whatever it’s worth.
