So, this is happening at Axxess in Brooklyn this week...
Thursday night, as part of the five-day WrestleMania Axxess, a new WWE Hall of Fame statue will be unveiled.
Notables in attendance will include WWE Hall of Famers “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Sting, Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat, 2019 Hall of Fame Inductee Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake and more.
Except for last year, a bronze Hall of Fame statue has been unveiled every year at the pre-WrestleMania week fan festival since 2013. Andre the Giant, Bruno Sammartino, Ultimate Warrior, Dusty Rhodes and Ric Flair have all received the honor.
On a PWInsider Elite Audio episode a few months back, Mike Johnson reported there had been plans at one point to unveil a statue of Hulk Hogan as part of a documentary project on the two-time Hall of Famer. That plan was obviously scrapped when Hogan was fired for the release of a tape on which he’d been recorded making racist statements. But WWE reinstated the 65 year old last summer and has been gradually reintroducing him into their promotional efforts. He played a big role in their WrestleMania 36 announcement in Tampa, and just this week was featured in their WWE Network “Pick of the Week” video. Insider says he’ll be in New York/New Jersey this week for an unrevealed role at this year’s Show of Shows.
Could it be for the unveiling of a statue in his likeness?
That would be a major fast forward in WWE’s slow rollout of the disgraced Real American. But they haven’t faced much in the way of a noticeable push back to how they’ve used him so far. And that line-up of guests they’re touting tomorrow night makes sense as a Hogan entourage...
Personally, I’m hoping they’ve managed to put together that Seth Rollins statue the Stinger destroyed back in ‘15. But I’m bracing myself for a version of the Hulkster that’s even more bronzed than his famously orange skin.
Give us your guesses below.
