He’s rumored to be up for a role in Suicide Squad 2 which was originally planned for Dave Bautista. While we wait for official news about that, it appears he’s definitely landed another role. Apparently the spirit of Paul Walker brought John Cena to Vin Diesel, and the 16 time WWE World champ will be joining the cast of the upcoming Fast & Furious 9.
Diesel revealed the news on his Instagram...
This is a big opportunity for Cena, as the Fast franchise is pretty much a license to print money. Joining Dom Toretto’s family of car thieves-turned-super spies was a big step in turning another WWE Superstar into a global box office draw. Of course, it also led to a big feud between Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. After tensions between the two on the set of 2017’s The Fate of the Furious leaked into the tabloids, it was announced that Johnson’s Luke Hobbs character would be spun of into a movie with Jason Statham (and eventually Roman Reigns - Fast really is the most WWE movie universe) and not take part in the ninth installment of the main series.
Has Cena turned on Rocky?
If that becomes a gossip site plot line, it will probably only help the box office.
We’ll let you know when details of Cena’s role come out, and in the meantime, let us know what you think about the news below.
