Batista is blowing stuff up with a little girl and an Uber driver in a pair of action comedies

Now that Batista is retired from sports entertainment after his WrestleMania match with HHH, we’ll have to catch our fix of Big Dave from his film roles. His most recent projects are a pair of action comedies.

First up is My Spy. Batista plays a CIA operative, who is a badass at destruction. Somehow a little girl gets involved and softens up the hard man. Check out the trailer.

It starts off pretty cool with Batista creating chaos. Ken Jeong and Kristen Schaal as co-stars is promising. But then, it loses me a little when the kid shows up. I guess Batista is taking his turn at doing the ‘child makes huge man feel feelings’ type of movie. Hulk Hogan did it with Mr. Nanny, Vin Diesel did it with The Pacifier, The Rock did it with The Game Plan, and the list goes on. My Spy is listed for a 2019 release, but there is no specific date yet.

Credit to Batista for mastering deadpan and awkward comedy. He just might make me interested enough to watch My Spy, but I’ll fast forward whenever the girl speaks.

Next up is Stuber. Batista plays a police officer, who is a badass at destruction. He forces an Uber driver, played by Kumail Nanjiani, to join him for a night of mischievous detective work. Enjoy the trailer.

Stuber is much more up my alley with zany fun and wild action. Once again, Batista entertains with his deadpan and awkward comedy style. He also seems to have good chemistry with Nanjiani. Stuber is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 12, 2019.

It is interesting to see Batista play the characters in those two movies so differently. He could have just been the same, and both movies probably would have worked.

Do the trailers for My Spy and Stuber get a thumbs up or a thumbs down? Do you think those films will end up being a bright spot in Batista’s acting resume?
