Been pretty quiet on the Sasha Banks front today.
Her absence from WWE, which to this point has been reported as being triggered by the decision to have Banks and Bayley drop the Women’s Tag titles at WrestleMania 35, was brought up several times on Monday’s Raw. Bayley was moved to SmackDown in the Superstar Shake-up on last night’s show, and is focused on a singles career (possibly as a heel if the reaction she got from the crown in Bell Centre on Tuesday night is any indication, but that’s a whole ‘nother subject). And we heard again The Boss is getting a couple weeks off to decide whether or not she wants to return to WWE, or... sit out the rest of her contract, presumably.
This item from Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio isn’t a bombshell, but it does provide some more background on what led Banks to allegedly try to quit the company on ‘Mania weekend.
“That had to do with the Sasha Banks/Bayley stuff being unhappy, was not only that they were losing the championship that they found out on Sunday, but they were told that they were splitting up the team...”
What seems odd about this is that, on social media and in storylines like the one on the April 15 Raw, Bayley was acting and being presented like the Boss ‘N’ Hug Connection would eventually resume tagging, and try to win back the belts. Was that all misdirection for the move to SmackDown? Did WWE waver on their decision after Sasha walked? What does it mean that they went ahead with the split while Banks is still considering her options?
Never a dull moment with this story...
