It’s probably mostly because, with only two hours (minus commercials) and several big stories to push each week, SmackDown is pressed for time. But the new Women’s Tag titles have yet to show up on a Tuesday night, and after last night’s house show in Largo, Florida, they’ve now made a couple NXT appearances. So while it’s almost certainly just logistics (Sasha Banks & Bayley were also in the area on Thurs., Mar. 7 for the WrestleMania 36 announcement in neighboring Tampa), knowing the love the champs have for their roots, we choose to believe it has something to do with the Boss ‘n’ Hug Connection loving the chance to show up on the black-and-yellow brand whenever they want.
They first took the chance to share the love with the Florida faithful, and explain why they were there in-story... to scout potential competition for their show-spanning belts:
But, when the two heel teams in the Triple Threat they were ringside for - Rhea Ripley & Reina Gonzalez and Aliyah & Vanessa Borne - took things too far and beat down Io Shirai & Kairi Sane, it was Banks & Bayley to the Sky Pirates rescue!
In addition to using Ripley & Gonzalez as stand-ins for the hoss team they’ll face at Sunday’s Fastlane pay-per-view (PPV), as Florida Wrestling Fan Kyle points out, this is also potential set-up for a frequently fantasy booked WrestleMania 35 scenario.
We shall see. In the meantime, the 400 or so in attendance at Minnreg Hall also got the WWE debut of recent signee Albert “ACH” Hardie... not bad for $10 - $20!
