Braun Strowman smashed Colin Jost’s car to sell toys

We’ve marveled in the past at how WWE’s taken Braun Strowman from a guy fans desperately wanted to see win the Universal title to one people just accept as a midcarder. The roof blew off the arena when The Monster Among Men performed feats like flipping an ambulance while Roman Reigns was inside it, or emerging from a trash truck to chase after Miz like a T-1000. Now he gets a good pop for stunts like destroying Vince McMahon’s limo, but with an equal number of eye rolls.

Strowman’s WrestleMania 35 role as the scourge of SNL players and likely Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal winner is a logical extension of his transformation into something in the middle of the spectrum between Big Show and Brodus Clay. It also included a very sneaky marketing tie-in, and one which demonstrates how Braun is an act for kids now even more than his Raw Tag Title win with Nicholas did.

You might think “Mattel’s WWE Wrekkin’ Slam Mobile with Braun Strowman” was a remarkably quick turnaround from the Mar. 11 Raw where Strowman dismantled the car Colin Jost sent him. But toy production schedules don’t work like that, and this one was actually available at places like Target and Wal-Mart weeks before that segment aired on television.

Which pretty much means that scene - and maybe the entire angle? - was written to sell toys.

Just something to keep in mind the next time you wonder “who are they writing this show for!?!?”
