WWE went up against a member of its Hall of Fame on Tues., Feb. 5 when President Donald Trump’s 2019 State of the Union address started during the second half of SmackDown.
The blue brand and WWE’s general viewership & ratings haven’t been great of late. The fallout from Royal Rumble basically had no effect last week. Still, dropping 296K viewers this week and only reaching an audience of 1,837,000 is a new low since moving to a live Tuesday broadcast in 2016 (the previous smallest viewership was 1.9 million on Christmas Day last year).
Demographic share among the 18 - 49 year olds was also down, but not to record depths. SmackDown earned a .64 in that metric, which was tenth best on cable, behind various coverage of the SOTU and History’s Curse of Oak Island. SmackDown was the 19th most watched show among cable originals on the night.
Well, next week’s Elimination Chamber ‘go home’ show probably can’t be worse... right?
