Jazzy Gabert, Ilja Dragunov head NXT UK Performance Center class

Nicely timed (intentionally or not) to step on All Elite’s announcement they’d added a popular British name to their roster, WWE revealed five wrestlers who they’ve signed for the NXT UK roster.

There aren’t huge surprises in the group, almost all of whom have either already appeared on WWE Network or worked the tapings in Coventry last weekend.

The most exciting name might be Jazzy Gabert, the German woman who was one of the breakout stars of the first Mae Young Classic. WWE was planning on signing her based on her work in the 2017 tournament, but a neck issue turned up in her medicals and they ended up passing. That’s been addressed, she got the “sitting in the crowd at TakeOver” spot at Blackpool last month and now she’s in the fold.

Joining her is another MYC veteran (and Blackpool attendee), Scottish standout Kay Lee Ray.

On the men’s side, Russian-born German Ilja Rukober - who Progress and wXw fans know by his kayfabe surname Dragunov - was finally announced. Reports circulated that the Alexander Wolfe-trained 25 year old had signed last month, and it led to some booking issues. He worked a dark match on Saturday.

Oliver Sauter is a 24 year old former soccer player who’s wrestled in Europe as Oliver Carter, and “Primate” Jay Melrose, who has been appearing on the NXT UK Network show since last year, round out the class.

WWE continues to stockpile talent. We’ll see which from this group break out and which get lost in an increasingly big pool.
