Some places do power rankings. Here at Cageside, we do a stock report.
In this weekly series, we identify three Superstars (or groups of Superstars) who are on their way up, and three that are moving in the opposite direction. After a busy week that included Royal Rumble 2019 and all of it’s fallout, including the news that Dean Ambrose will be leaving WWE in April, a lot of fortunes were changed.
With that in mind, let’s see whose stock has decreased the most this week:
Stock Down #3: The Bar
Sheamus and Cesaro once lost the Raw tag team titles to Some Kid, and now they have lost the SmackDown tag titles to Shane McMahon. To add insult to injury, The Bar won’t even get a rematch for the titles after coming up short in a Fatal 4-way tag team match this week (Jan. 29) on SmackDown.
Stock Down #2: Rusev
Rusev’s reign as United States champion came to an abrupt halt when he once again failed to win on pay-per-view. Things got even worse for the Bulgarian Brute on SmackDown when he suddenly turned heel but was still pinned very quickly by R-Truth in another United States championship match.
Stock Down #1: Kurt Angle
What a brutal week for our Olympic hero. First, Angle had a very poor showing in the men’s Royal Rumble match where he looked much more like Zack Ryder than a Hall of Famer. The next night (Jan. 28) on Raw, Kurt was pinned by Baron Corbin in a match where the Lone Wolf didn’t even need to use his finishing move (End of Days) to put Angle away. This feels like a sad final chapter of Kurt Angle’s career, and he’s going to make an announcement about his future on Raw.
Now let’s see whose stock has increased the most this week:
Stock Up #3: Daniel Bryan & Rowan
Daniel Bryan now has a brainwashed disciple in his corner in the form of Rowan, and a new eco-friendly WWE Championship. These moves strongly indicate that Bryan will continue to be the focal point of SmackDown’s main event scene on the road to WrestleMania.
Stock Up #2: Seth Rollins
Seth Rollins’ victory in the men’s Royal Rumble match established that The Architect will get a significant push over the next couple of months as he prepares for a match against the Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.
Stock Up #1: Becky Lynch & Ronda Rousey
One night after winning the women’s Royal Rumble match, The Man confronted Ronda Rousey on Raw and challenged her to a championship match at WrestleMania. Both superstars absolutely killed it on the microphone during this confrontation, and their upcoming match now stands out as the clear main event of the biggest wrestling show of the year.
There you have it, Cagesiders. Whose stock do you think has changed the most this week?
