Next month, WWE’s new TV deal in the United Kingdom kicks in. The move from Sky Sports to BT Sport means promotion, and promotion means interviews.
Chief Brand Officer Stephanie McMahon is making the rounds this week, these specific quotes seemed most relevant to our interests.
To talkSPORT, on another women-only Evolution PPV:
“It is certainly something that we are pushing for. There’s no official announcement just yet and yes, there was a lot of balls in the air and wheels in motion in terms of this year and, of course, one of the big focuses was on our event in Saudi Arabia and having our women being allowed to perform. I’m hopeful to have an announcement on an Evolution 2, but there is nothing official to announce just yet.”
To Metro UK, on potential returns from CM Punk and/or AJ Lee:
“I personally enjoy watching both of them perform. I think Punk’s been pretty vocal that he’s not interested in an in-ring return right now, but for sure, that would be interesting. And I would love to see AJ Lee back in the women’s division.
I think AJ Lee was an incredibly compelling character. Some of our most interesting and intriguing storylines were with AJ, and I think she deserves as much credit as every other woman on our roster.”
To GiveMeSport’s Ben Wignall, on Ronda Rousey’s future:
“Ronda will definitely be back, that is the plan - but, as of now, I’m not sure where and when.”
She’s right about Punk, and AJ doesn’t sound like she’s ever interested in returning for much more than friendship & snacks.
We’ll have to wait and see on Rousey and Evolution 2... maybe they’re a package deal?
