NXT UK champ Kay Lee Ray helps Team Baszler get the WarGames advantage, but we really just hope Mia Yim is okay

The bottom line is that Io Shirai won a ladder match to give Shayna Baszler’s team the entry advantage at TakeOver: WarGames. That was never in much doubt. WarGames and other similar gimmicks work best when the heels have the numbers on their side at the beginning.

Somewhat more surprising is why Shirai won. Dakota Kai showed up to help the wrestler who took her spot on Rhea Ripley’s team, since all the other members of the babyface side (and Baszler allies Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir) had been taken out by a mystery assailant earlier in the night. It now looks like the culprit was Bayley, but that’s unconfirmed as of this writing. I personally thought it might have been Kai going full-Sting and taking out both sides of the war, but it looks like she’s in the clear.

Anyway, Dakota was neutralized by the surprise appearance of NXT UK Women’s champion Kay Lee Ray, who looks to be the fourth member of Shayna’s squad. The Scot also sent Mia Yim crashing from one ladder in the ring through another draped across the barricade. The spot left Yim clutching her right arm and writhing in pain... and it wasn’t even the worst bump she took in the match.

That would be this one...

We’ll have to wait for more definitive word on Yim’s condition, but she definitely earned a lot of fans and a lot of respect tonight. Full Sail showed her much love, as did her man, who you might recognize:

Io’s night wasn’t easy by a long shot, either. Join us in sending healing vibes and much appreciation to both performers, and get caught up on everything that happened on the Nov. 13 NXT right here.
