It’s amazing that a match pitting a former Ring of Honor World champ against a pair of multi-time IWGP Heavyweight titleholders is even happening in the biggest wrestling company the world has ever known. It’s even more amazing that it’s a midcard attraction on what will be a Survivor Series card full of matches you used to only be able to book in video games.
But that’s the way things are in 2019 with WWE having amassed the deepest roster of talent the business has ever seen. Adding NXT to the inter-brand competition they host at their annual November PPV has only made that more apparent.
The latest is this Triple Threat of each brand’s secondary men’s singles champions, who just so happen to be SmackDown’s Intercontinental champ Shinsuke Nakamura, NXT’s North American champ Roderick Strong, and Raw’s United States champ AJ Styles.

Being based on who holds those belts, there’s always the chance this match will change like the Triple Threat of Tag Team titleists has since it was first announced. But I hope not. In addition to just the sheer talent of the wrestlers involved, there’s plenty of story here, too. Styles’ The O.C. beefed with Roddy & Undisputed ERA all last week, and AJ’s issues with Shinsuke span two companies.
We’ll see what happens between here and Sun., Nov. 24. In the meantime, check out the updated card for Allstate Arena:
- Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE championship
- Bayley vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Becky Lynch
- The New Day vs. Viking Raiders vs. Undisputed ERA
- AJ Styles vs. Roderick Strong vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
- Team Raw (Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Ricochet, Kevin Owens & Drew McIntyre) vs. Team SmackDown (TBD) vs. Team NXT (TBD)
- Team Raw (TBD) vs. Team SmackDown (Sasha Banks, Carmella, Dana Brooke + 2) vs. Team NXT (TBD)
