Come right back here at 8 p.m. ET when the SmackDown live blog kicks off once the show starts on USA. It will be below this line here. (REMINDER: NO GIFS OR PICS ARE ALLOWED IN THE COMMENTS SECTION. OFFENDERS WILL BE BANNED.)
WWE SMACKDOWN RESULTS AND LIVE BLOG FOR NOV. 1
This tragedy and what it brings, all the devastation. The reaper has his way. Men will kill, blood will spill to preserve the nation. There’s the devil to pay. South of town down the Emmitsburg road, the first corps are starting to show. For Buford’s men, they’re here just in time, the desperate need to strengthen the line, but for me? I just need to liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.
The show opens with the intro video.
Tonight’s commentary team of Tom Phillips, Aiden English, and Renee Young explain WWE’s travel woes to us.
Brock Lesnar makes his entrance, flanked by Paul Heyman as always.
Heyman begins with his usual schtick and offers to shed his brilliance on our ignorance. He says the only way to describe his client’s mood tonight is to educate us as to how he’s really, really pissed off. He talks about how Brock conquered Cain Velasquez last night and runs footage of the entire match for us before running additional footage of the post-match attack and Lesnar’s brawl with Rey Mysterio.
Paul E continues, saying there’s a real problem here, and he and Brock went to Vince McMahon demanding a match against Rey Mysterio. Vince said he can’t do that, and why? Because of the hard brand split. And well, if Rey Mysterio can’t come to SmackDown, then as of this Monday, Brock Lesnar is going to come to Raw, and if anybody, a network, a chairman of the board, WWE itself, has a problem with that, what the hell are you gonna do about it?
To get rid of the formalities, Brock Lesnar hereby quits Friday Night SmackDown!
Heyman and Lesnar are shown leaving in the back as Triple H and Shawn Michaels look on.
Commentary hypes up our women’s title match and we go to break.
Back from commercial in time for entrances.
Bayley (c) vs. Nikki Cross (WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship)
Circling, collar and elbow, Bayley with a forearm, back to the lockup, Cross tries to get her in the corner but the champ turns her around. Challenger with a shove on the break, a schoolboy pin for two, jackknife gets one, hip toss, La Casita, still no! Bayley cuts her off with an elbow, mat slam, whip across, Cross with a headscissors takeover! Slingshot dropkick, following out after her, tornado DDT connects!
Back inside, cover... NOPE! And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, Bayley in control, Cross gets a schoolgirl for two but is decked after and laid out. Forearms from Nikki, Bayley to the floor, dropkick caught and the champion rams her into the steel steps! Back inside, dodge the charge, Cross with a jawbreaker, blocking punches and throwing her own forearms, Bayley shoves her off, duck the lariat, big crossbody!
Forearms on forearms, fired up, Stinger Splash into a bulldog, she calls for it and heads up top, diving crossbody... NOPE! Thinking about the dragon screw neck whip, Sasha Banks runs interference and Bayley heads up top, diving elbow... STILL NO! Setting Cross up top, climbing to meet her, jockeying for position and the champ blocks the tornado DDT with a DDT of her own!
Baseball slide, Nikki catches her in the ring skirt and hammers her with forearms! One for Banks, too, back inside, Cross up top but Sasha shoves her down, Bayley grabs a bulldog headlock...
Bayley wins by pinfall with a headlock driver.
Post-match, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler comes through the crowd and attacks Bayley! She throws her into the post... KARELIN LIFT DROPPED INTO A DDT! The Queen of Spades puts her leather jacket back on and places her title on her shoulder as she stands tall over all the main roster women, before leaving through the crowd to send us to break.
Back from commercial, we get a recap of what we just saw, because most of the roster is stuck in Saudi Arabia and we gotta fill time somehow.
Pat McAfee replaces Aiden English at the commentary desk.
Backstage, Sami Zayn is interviewed.
He says fair play to NXT, but they have to watch where they stick their nose, because if one of them steps to him, it’s gonna be bad news for--
ENTER MATT RIDDLE AND KEITH LEE!
Zayn immediately changes gears to fawn over them and talks about how much he loved NXT in his time on the brand. He goes for a big t-shirt reveal but he’s just wearing a plain black shirt and claims he was eating a salad, so he’s gonna go to his car and get the t-shirt. Don’t follow him!
He leaves and of course, they follow and Sami relents, inviting them to escort him before breaking and doing a sharp right turn away from them! He runs out of Gorilla and through the entrance, chased by Lee and Riddle! The King of Bros catches up to him and throws him in the ring! Kick off the slides, they’ve got Zayn surrounded and he begs off before throwing the first lariat!
Ripcord knee strike... TOMBSTONE PILEDRIVER! The Limitless One isn’t content to be left out... DOOMSAULT!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, the Miz makes his entrance.
He talks up Bray Wyatt as being his guest, hypothetically, and we get a recap package covering his title match last night. After, Miz says Bray can’t be here today but he wants to talk about the elephant in the room, which is to say NXT. He recounts tonight’s NXT invasion--
Enter Tommaso Ciampa!
He introduces himself and says he just happens to be the greatest sports entertainer of all time. Miz acts like the entire world revolves around him and it’s time somebody gave him a reality check. Fact is, Miz is everything that is wrong with Raw and SmackDown, while he’s out there breaking his neck to prove he’s the greatest, Miz is out here playing talk show host?
Miz plays the part, Ciampa is the part. The A-Lister says he knows who Ciampa is and people always say they want to see them fight on the mic but he was hoping Tommaso would bring something more original. If he was acting for 15 years, he deserves a freakin’ Oscar! And if Ciampa is here to make a statement, MAKE the statement!
The Sicilian Psychopath says that sounds like fighting words and Miz wants to make it happen right here, right now!
We go to break first.
The Miz vs. Tommaso Ciampa
Collar and elbow, Miz throws Ciampa off and poses. Back to the lockup, the A-Lister with a side headlock, taking a knee to block, reversed, shot off, shoulder block! Off the ropes, drop down, leapfrog, Tom with a front kick and a pass to the apron. Slide under, sunset flip, only two! Front kick, passing Ciampa to the floor, Miz wipes his hands. Off the ropes, feeling frisky, nobody home on the dropkick and Tom puts him into the barricades!
Into the steel steps, back inside, Ciampa grabs a reverse chinlock and wrenches it in. Miz to his feet, elbows to break, block punches and return his own right hands! Whip, kitchen sink knee, inverted facelock backbreaker / neckbreaker combo... NOPE! Chest kicks in the corner, running knees... CIAMPA EXPLODES WITH A ROLLING ELBOW! Miz in the corner, running knee connects... STILL NO!
Drawing Miz up, thinking about Fairytale Ending, leg pick counters, spinning toehold, Tom kicks him away, back suplex, A-Lister lands on his feet and fires off a chop block to the bad knee! Leg pick, upkicks to fight out, Ciampa stands up, front kick, powerbomb lift but Miz slips out and kicks him in the knee to set up the basement DDT... NOT ENOUGH!
Figure four leglock applied in the middle of the ring but Ciampa fires up and rolls through to the reversal! Miz rolls to re-reverse and ends up in the ropes for the break! To his feet, stalking after the Sicilian Psychopath, spinning toehold, small package counter, only two! Schoolboy, another two count but Tom grabs the half-crab on the kickout! Reversed into a small package of his own, still just a nearfall!
Ciampa laying chops in, Miz sidesteps a forearm and hits the Awesome Clothesline! Headed up top, diving double axehandle countered with a knee strike! Underhooks...
Tommaso Ciampa wins by pinfall with the Fairytale Ending.
Daniel Bryan is shown walking backstage.
He runs into Triple H and Shawn Michaels and asks what they’re doing here. Hunter says they’re visiting because they kinda got called out when an advertisement for Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT played at Crown Jewel. Bryan says he’s kinda looking for a fight, and if Trips is looking for a fight, why not the two of them fight right now? HHH gets in his face and demures, saying he didn’t really bring his gear and he’s not looking for a fight but he knows somebody who is.
HBK was taking his jacket off, but it’s not him... IT’S ADAM COLE, BAYBAY! If Bryan’s looking for a fight, he’s his man! Dan says he wants the NXT Championship to be on the line and Triple H makes it official!
And on that bombshell, we go to break.
Back from commercial, Fire and Desire are being, uh... friendly... in the ring.
Carmella’s theme plays but she’s nowhere to be found... BECAUSE BIANCA BELAIR BEAT HER DOWN BACKSTAGE! HAIR WHIPS FOR DANA BROOKE! Military press... SHE DROPS CARMELLA OVER SOME ROAD CASES!
Back in the arena... Rhea Ripley and Tegan Nox make their entrance.
Rhea gets on the mic and says it looks like they don’t have any opponents tonight... well they do now!
Fire and Desire (Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville) vs. Rhea Ripley & Tegan Nox
Ripley and Nox right in, brawling away, Tegan has Sonya on the floor but Deville manages to fight back and throw her into the barricade! Meanwhile, Rhea is dominating Rose but referee Dan Engler backs her off and Mandy is able to throw an elbow. Ripley shoves her away, big dropkick, fired up, Sonya still having her way with Nox until the Welsh star throws her over the announce table!
Back inside... THE SHINIEST WIZARD! Ripley crosses her legs and draws her up into the inverted cloverleaf! Nowhere to go...
Rhea Ripley & Tegan Nox win by submission with an inverted cloverleaf from Ripley on Mandy Rose.
Commentary hypes up our NXT Championship match and we go to break.
Back from commercial, Triple H and Shawn Michaels are at ringside.
Stephanie McMahon makes her entrance and talks about how we, the fans, don’t get enough credit for the women’s revolution, and this is a pretense to segue into a video package about the women’s long t-shirt street fight from Crown Jewel yesterday.
We get main event entrances and go to break before the match begins.
Adam Cole (c) vs. Daniel Bryan (NXT Championship)
Circling, collar and elbow, Bryan with a side headlock, into the takeover, reverse to a headscissors, stalemate! Back to the lockup, Cole with the headlock this time, into the takeover, headscissors reversal, again they stalemate! Again to the lockup, Dan with a wristlock, arm wringer, roll through reversal! Bryan backs him into the corner and referee Drake Wuertz counts the break.
Dirty with a shove and slap, Adam fires back with right hands and the American Dragon decks him with an uppercut! Chest kick, chops in the corner, again Cole fires back with boots. Side headlock takeover, shot off, shoulder block, drop down, leapfrog, and a roundhouse kick drops Adam flat on his back! Bryan jawing at Triple H, bending Cole’s arm back and stomping his bicep!
Leg pick, setting up the Romero Special and he gets full extension! Shift into the Dragon Sleeper with the legs still grapevined, just wrenching the champion back! Shift gears, knee drop across the face, uppercut, uppercut, off the ropes, duck the lariat but the pump kick drops Dan and gets Adam a nearfall! Drawing Bryan up, suplex denied, jockeying for position... THE AMERICAN DRAGON SUPLEXES HIM OVER THE ROPES AND TO THE FLOOR!
And so we go to break.
Back from commercial, we’re jockeying for position over a backslide. Cole gets a jumping neckbreaker... only two! Elbow drops, knee drop, cover still only a nearfall. Figure four headscissors, falling back but Bryan is able to get a foot on the ropes and force the break. Boots in the corner, roundhouse kick gets Dan back in the fight! Whip reversed, backflip up and over, off the ropes... AXE BOMBER!
Off the ropes, Cole with a front kick but Bryan follows it up by back body dropping him to the floor! Dan off the apron with a diving knee, he’s fired up and rolling! Back inside, up top, missile dropkick connects! Corner dropkick, setting Adam up top, climbing to meet him... AVALANCHE FRANKENSTEINER BUT COLE ROLLS THROUGH INTO A PIN! ONLY TWO! Dan with uppercuts, off the ropes, Adam nails him with a pump kick!
Again just a nearfall, Bryan floats over a followup suplex and dumps Cole to the floor. Suicide dive one connects but number two gets cut off with a kick as we go to break!
Back from commercial, Bryan’s been crotched up on the top turnbuckle and Cole climbs to meet him. Jockeying for position, Dan hangs him up... SPIDER GERMAN SUPLEX! The American Dragon lets out a primal roar from atop the turnbuckles, turns and perches... DIVING HEADBUTT COMES UP EMPTY! COLE WITH THE BRAINBUSTER ON THE KNEE BUT DANIEL BRYAN WON’T STAY DOWN!
Adam takes his knee pad down, off the ropes, Last Shot countered into a roll-through half-crab! Triple H is beside himself at ringside! Cole nearly gets the ropes, pulled back in, Dan converts to a heel hook! Adam rolls through... AND GETS THE ROPES! Bryan gets to his feet and bids Cole to rise as he kicks his knee out from under him repeatedly! Adam gets to his feet, firing forearms on forearms, Dan catches him, fireman’s carry reversed into... something!
Bryan kicks out right into the LeBell Lock! Cole posts and rolls out of it, Bryan grabs his wrists... YOU’RE GONNA GET YOUR [REDACTED] HEAD KICKED IN! Dan follows it up, grabbing the LeBell Lock again! Adam Cole desperate, reaching, crawling, dragging himself ot the ropes but Bryan grabs his free arm and wrenches it back into an Ode to Jim Breaks! COLE GETS THE ROPES AND FORCES THE BREAK!
The American Dragon rises, confident, and starts laying the chest kicks in! Duck the buzzsaw, O’Connor roll, reversed, only two! BRYAN KICKS HIS HEAD OFF! Fired up, shaking, rising to his feet... SUPERKICK COUNTERS THE BUSAIKU KNEE! Cole up top... PANAMA SUNRISE! Off the ropes... LAST SHOT! IT’S OVER!
Adam Cole wins by pinfall with the Last Shot to retain the NXT Championship.
Roderick Strong comes down to raise his boys hand as the rest of the NXT stars that appeared tonight, as well as some extras like Shane Strickland and Lio Rush.
Triple H gets in the ring with his kids and gets on the mic, saying if they want to pick a fight they’ve got it, and Survivor Series is Raw vs. SmackDown vs. NXT. He needs an army, so he looked to his blood and to his family and built one. This is his army, this is their fight, this is their ring, and at Survivor Series, know what you’re getting into-- NXT fired the first shot.
He asks Raw and SmackDown to show him what they’ve got and to remember one thing-- they are NXT.
That’s the show, folks.
