Cain Velasquez shows up on Raw and the live crowd goes mild

If tonight (Oct. 21) was any indication WWE still has a lot of work to do with Cain Velasquez.

The number one contender to Brock Lesnar’ WWE Championship made a surprise appearance on Raw and nobody in attendance really cared. Velasquez came to the aid of his friend Rey Mysterio after Shelton Benjamin cornered the injured lucha legend.

Mysterio needed some help and Velasquez was there to make the save. The former UFC heavyweight champion rag dolled Benjamin, threw some horrible looking punches, and then got him to tap out.

On paper that sounds like a decent win for Velasquez. In practice, the MMA fighter turned pro wrestling rookie looked exactly like an awkward pro wrestling rookie.

Not good.

At all.

Ten days before Cain Velasquez challenges Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel, can WWE build him up for WWE fans to care? Since the show is on a Thursday in Saudi Arabia, does WWE even have to?
