The Usos to wrestle SmackDown tag team champions for shot at their titles

Ah, the old “beat the champs to get a shot at the champs” trope. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

WWE announced today that The Usos will wrestle The Bar, the current SmackDown tag team champions, on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live for a shot at the SmackDown tag team titles. It should be noted they don’t give a time frame for when that match would take place:

In a high-stakes match, Jimmy & Jey will face off against Sheamus & Cesaro and, if The Usos can prevail, they will receive a future SmackDown Tag Team Title opportunity.

We’re just three weeks out from Royal Rumble and The Bar doesn’t have a match scheduled there, for whatever that’s worth.

SmackDown this week will also feature a triple threat match pitting Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte vs. Carmella for the right to wrestle Asuka for the SmackDown women’s title at Royal Rumble.
