Just days ago, the pro wrestling world lost perhaps the greatest interview of all time when “Mean” Gene Okerlund died at the age of 76. The overwhelming outpouring of support for him after the news broke showed just how respected and revered he was in this industry.
WWE will pay tribute to him on next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw. One of the ways they will do so, the company announced today, is by bringing back Hulk Hogan, the wrestler most often associated with Okerlund.
“Let me tell you something, Mean Gene,” remains an iconic phrase. The era of Hulkamania just wouldn’t have been the same if Okerlund wasn’t there setting up Hogan for all those memorable interviews.
From Hogan days ago:
The best partner I ever had. We never rehearsed or did anything scripted from a writer. Gene would ask me “hey big man what do u want to do?” I would always answer “just follow you brother” and it worked from 1980 - 2017. RIP my brother HH pic.twitter.com/OBtn6NxT1E
