NXT results, live blog (Jan. 30, 2019) - TakeOver: Phoenix aftermath

WWE.com

Here's a place to check results and comment along with the latest airing of WWE NXT in its regular Wednesday night at 8PM Eastern time slot on WWE Network.

Check out our Wednesday morning preview post to get caught up on what's been happening, and what we expect this week.

We'll post match results here, and we will also have our regular reactions post later. In the meantime, and most importantly, this gives you Cagesiders a dedicated place to rave and/or bitch about whatever happens on WWE’s third brand - during its initial broadcast!

NOTE: Spoilers are out there for these pre-taped broadcasts, but many Cagesiders don't partake. If you are going to post or discuss spoilers for this show before they happen, or results of future shows, please use the spoiler bar in your comment.

Enjoy the show!

- A Mauro Ranallo-narrated recap of TakeOver: Phoenix covers the three singles titles matches, and the scene on the stage at the end of the broadcast. Then it’s the standard open. North American champion Johnny Gargano & NXT champ Tommaso Ciampa holding up their titles is the new final image of that video package.

- Io Shirai & Kairi Sane def. Jessamyn Duke & Marina Shafir via pinfall (inSane Elbow on Shafir)

Mauro introduces the joshi stars as Sky Pirates. Marina starts with Io, and after a takedown by Shafir, Shirai cruises and the Horsewoman backs into her corner for a tag after a dropkick. Duke mocks Sane by asking for the test of strength, showing off their height difference. Jessamyn with a takedown, but Kairi reverses for some ground & pound. Tag, and Duke takes a tandem dropkick from the Pirates. Running double knees to the corner from Shirai. Duke rolls out, and a distraction from Marina allows Jessamyn to drop Io to the apron. Tag, and Shafir works some takedowns, then tags again for a takeover/kick-to-the-midsection combo, Duke covers for two. Rest hold, which Io pushes to the corner, only to be thrown down with a butterfly suplex. Shafir back in, but Shirai manages to flip over in the corner and roll through for a tag. Kairi comes in hot, multiple blockbusters and a spear! Sliding D, and Io kicks Jessamyn off the apron! Pop-up elbow drop from the Pirates! Io flies to the outside to take out Duke while Sane climbs for the finish.

- More detailed highlights of Gargano’s victory over Ricochet, followed by Sarah Schrieber’s fallout interview with Johnny TakeOver (see all the fallout clips here).

- Percy Watson thanks Poppy for her song ‘X’, a TakeOver theme which is hard to set highlights to, but they try for the recap of Shayna Baszler’s Women’s title retaining win over Bianca Belair. We see The EST’s fallout chat with Schrieber, including Bianca telling “Mr. Sam” to kiss her ass.

- Highlights of War Raiders win over Undisputed ERA, then Cathy Kelley’s interview with new tag champs Hanson & Rowe. Matt Riddle’s submission (strikes) win over Kassius Ohno gets the same treatment, followed by Cathy’s chat with an angry King of Bros.

- Exclusive footage of the NXT title fight, starting with Tommaso Ciampa dissing Schrieber and the NXT Male Competitor of the Year award. We see a tweet from Paul Heyman shouting out Ciampa, and then get footage of the post-TakeOver brawl between Gargano, Ciampa & Adam Cole on one side and Ricochet, Velveteen Dream & Aleister Black on the other. We see Shawn Michaels’ announcement of Halftime Heat.

- Percy hypes what a great weekend Gargano had, and tells us he’ll be “live” at Full Sail on next week’s episode.

- Forgotten Sons def. Street Profits via pinfall following Memory Remains

Jaxson Ryker hangs ringside for Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake. Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins are rocking some Harlem Heat homage ring gear.

Cutler talks trash and gets taken down by Dawkins and punched for it. Tag to Blake who tries to double team Angelo but gets forearmed by Ford for the effort. Things break down and the Profits emerge with the upperhand, ending by a tandem flapjacking of Steve onto his partner. A clothesline from the former tag champ gets the Sons back in control, and they get a nearfall when they double-team Montez to hit a backbreaker. Dawkins has to make a save after a springboard backbreaker from Blake gets two.

Angelo with the hot tag after Ford avoids a splash and crawls to the corner. Dawkins flattens both his opponents, body drops them over his shoulder en route to strikes in the corner. Dropkick to Cutler. Stungun and bulldog on Wesley. Montez takes out Steve with a tope con hilo while Angelo gets two off a spear. A combo gets another cover, but the Profits break it up. Things get chaotic again, and Ryker levels Ford with a big clothesline on the floor. Dawkins sees it from across the ring and stars Jaxson down, but while that’s going on, Blake hits him with a suicide dive. Ford is rolled back in for the team finisher.
