What happens when the biggest pro wrestling promotion in the world loses its biggest star?
In 2018 we found out the answer to that question when Roman Reigns revealed he had been battling leukemia on the Oct. 22nd episode of Monday night Raw. The Reigns news and the announcement he would be leaving WWE came out of nowhere.
Reigns’ fight against leukemia was one of the biggest and most surprising wrestling stories of 2018. Two months removed from the news, WWE and Raw are slowly starting to refocus their product. One of WWE’s biggest strengths is their deep roster and the ability to have the ‘next man up’ try to fill the gaps Reigns left.
Someone WWE will lean on more than ever while Reigns recovers is Seth Rollins.
From an interview with Fox channel 2 in Detroit, Michigan, Rollins gave a brief medical update on his former Shield partner.
“Roman is doing great. You know,he obviously spent the holidays home with his family and he’s doing really good. He’s in a good position. He’s primed to make a comeback, hopefully sometime sooner rather than later.
At the end of the day, he’s just focusing on getting healthy right now. I will say that he’s doing good, he’s in good spirits.”
Rollins would also go to talk about the Royal Rumble, his goals for 2019, and WWE’s rapid growth over the last few years.
In a sport that has no off-season, it’s hard not to want constant update on the progress of Reigns’ recovery. Even during the very busy Holiday season, people are still curious what Reigns is up to.
It’s still surprising to think that a wrestler WWE poured years of resources into, can be gone from the company in an instant. How WWE continues to recover from losing Reigns off the their roster will be a fascinating story to watch in 2019.
