WWE Royal Rumble 2019 results: Erick Rowan helps Daniel Bryan beat AJ Styles

@WWE

Daniel Bryan took enough time away from raging against Chase Field’s decision to sell awful food in Phoenix, Arizona tonight (Sun., Jan. 27, 2019) during the Royal Rumble pay-per-view (PPV) to actually wrestle on the show. He was defending his WWE championship against AJ Styles, who earned the shot by winning a Fatal 5-Way.

It wasn’t your usual WWE main event level match.

Bryan is finally working more of the mat based style he long talked about doing if he was ever to be cleared to return to wrestling. That he’s a heel now allows him to take that to its logical conclusion, and that’s what we saw here with Styles. A slow, methodical battle between two of the best wrestlers doing some actual wrestling.

Then, late in the match, out of nowhere, Erick Rowan walked out to ringside. Not long after, there was a referee bump, at which point AJ hit the Styles Clash and went for a cover. Rowan broke it up by rushing the ring and slamming him. This was followed by Bryan covering Styles and a freshly recovered referee counting to three.

Daniel Bryan is still the Planet’s Champion, thanks to Erick Rowan.

How about that?
