WWE ROYAL RUMBLE LIVE BLOG & MATCH COVERAGE

Go on and hold her till the screaming is gone. Go on believe her when she tells you nothing’s wrong. But I’m the only one who’ll walk across the fire for you. I’m the only one who’ll drown in my desire for you. It’s only fear that makes you run, the demons that you’re hiding from. When all your promises are gone, I’m the only one that’ll liveblog this here pro wrestling show for you, folks.

The pre-show opens with Jonathan Coachman welcoming us to the show and introducing us to the preshow panel, which tonight consists of Beth Phoenix, Booker T, and Jerry “the King” Lawler. Additionally he informs us that both David “A-List” Otunga and the Heartbreak Kid himself, Shawn Michaels, will be joing the panel later. The panel run down the card and announce that John Cena is out of the Men’s Royal Rumble and Braun Strowman is in.

We go down on the stage with John “Bradshaw” Layfield and Charly Caruso for a little bit more hype and some discussion of the Raw Women’s Championship match between Ronda Rousey and Sasha Banks. They pass back to the main panel for more discussion of said match. The Cruiserweight and United States Championship matches are up next for discussion and we go backstage with Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose.

Mandy says she’s a lot more than a killer body, just ask Naomi. She went after Jimmy Uso to drive her crazy and Sonya says she knows she wasn’t interested in Jimmy, which Rose confirms. They talk up the idea that one win tonight can push you to the top of the card at WrestleMania and tease a little dissension between them. Drake Maverick rolls into an interview backstage and says he’s looking forward to the title match tonight but he’s also still AOP’s manager so he’s been looking for their better interests.

They’ve been given an unconventional but welcome opportunity-- Rezar and Scott Dawson will be tagging together tonight with a chance at a future title opportunity on the line. Back to the panel for some more discussion and then a hype reel for the concept of the Royal Rumble. Panel discussion of the Women’s Royal Rumble Match follows, and Fabulous Truth crash the panel.

R-Truth has breaking news-- they’re both #30 in their Elimination Chamber matches too! Carmella says the real breaking news is that after they win tonight, the World’s Biggest Dance Break is coming to WrestleMania! Asked if they really believe they’re going to win, they say they will, then the crowd demands a dance break and they get one! Promos from Alexa Bliss and Samoa Joe talking about how they’re going to win their respective Rumbles follow.

The Universal Championship scene is up next for recap and panel discussion, and the WWE Championship follows shortly after. This segues into a promo from Daniel Bryan talking about the WWE Universe and their empty, unfulfilled lives and the Chase Field Royal Rumble Burger, which he throws on the ground and steps on. We then go to ringside for our first match of the evening.

Off the ropes, deep arm drag into an old-timey flying headscissors, Scott hangs up in the ropes and ducks a dropkick before tagging Rezar in. Panel discussion of the SmackDown Women’s Championship match follows, and when we head back to the panel proper, as promised, HBK and David Otunga have swapped in for Booker and Lawler.
