Yes, Jack Swagger, real name Jake Hager, did close out his media scrum with a ‘We the people’ chant.
Closing in on the two year anniversary of his release from WWE, Swagger seems full focused on his new career as mixed martial arts fighter.
Ahead of his first professional MMA fight, Swagger met with members of the press for a lengthy interview. The 36-year-old heavyweight talked about a wide range of topics including getting compared to CM Punk, balancing his current pro wrestling obligations with his MMA training, and the flood of support he received from his former co-workers at WWE.
In fact, Vince McMahon was among those who reached out personally to offer up some words of wisdom to Swagger before his fight this weekend.
“It’s been a very positive reception. I feel like my background has helped in that. As far as pro wrestlers, everybody from Vince McMahon, to Rey Mysterio, Roman Reigns, like name dropping here no big deal, but it’s cool because I feel like I am a pro wrestler, I also feel like I’m a pro fighter. To have that family from the pro wrestling community stand by me and support me has been really, really special.”
McMahon’s advice to Swagger? “Don’t lose”.
Jack Swagger makes his professional MMA debut on Saturday Jan. 26 versus J.W. Kiser at Bellator 214, from the The Forum in Inglewood, California.
