Not that wrestling fans need more reasons to get excited about Royal Rumble. Between a match WWE has (mostly) kept to one event a year to the stakes, the surprise entrances to the (now somewhat infamous) countdown clock, the annual January pay-per-view (PPV) is in the top two or three most anticipated events on the calendar.
But this year’s edition will be unique as it will take place in a baseball stadium for the first time. Jan. 27’s show emanates from Phoenix’s Chase Field, the home stadium of MLB’s Arizona Diamondbacks. Since that was announced in January of last year, questions have floated around like, “where will the stage be?” and “how will they handle entrances?”
The company is in Phoenix this week doing promotion for the show, and WWE champion Daniel Bryan may have given us the answer to one of those while speaking to ABC 15’s Shane Dale:
“It’s an incredible stadium, and we were actually just talking about what the metamorphosis would look like, you know what I mean, and the idea of where’s - where are we gonna come out of and right now the thought is that we come out of the dugout. Which - we’ve never had a Royal Rumble at a baseball stadium before. So, I’m super psyched, I’ve never come out of a dugout to go to a wrestling show before, so yeah, I think it should be exciting.”
We’re so used to seeing Superstars running (or sometimes being wheeled) down to the ring when their number is up, could the ‘19 Rumble be the first where they run up to it?
