After earning his way onto the show with an impressive knockout, Matt Riddle came out UFC’s Ultimate Fighter reality competition in 2008 a hot prospect. Over the course of the next several years, he seemed to be living up to his promise, compiling a winning record as well as “Fight of the Night” and “Submission of the Night” bonuses for several of his trips to the Octagon.
His career was derailed by injury and several failed drug tests. His UFC release came in 2013 after being popped for marijuana twice in a year. And, as usual, Dana White didn’t hide his feelings about Riddle after the company parted ways with the welterweight known for his big smile.
Fast forward, and Matt reinvented himself in independent pro wrestling and signed with WWE. After his “man in the crowd” introduction at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 (more on his indie career and black-and-yellow brand debut here), fans are anxiously awaiting Riddle’s debut on the Network. The Bro is excited, too, and thanked White for starting him on this journey... firing few shots at UFC’s President along with a custom video clip he shared on Twitter:
Hey Dana remember that time you fired me and talked all that shit on me to the world and called me a loser? I just wanted to say thank you for everything dummy #bro #kingofbros #splx #stallion #wwe #nxt #ufc #danawhite pic.twitter.com/y5yH6POwKw— matthew riddle (@SuperKingofBros) September 8, 2018
Matt’s love of the ganj was seen by some as an obstacle to signing with WWE, but that’s clearly been overcome one way or another (likely either by Riddle giving up marijuana, or simply accepting the $2500 fine WWE’s Wellness Policy warrants after each positive test for that substance). He’s a NXT Superstar, making six figures.
Who’s the dummy now, bro?
