Mae Young Classic results, live blog (Sept. 5, 2018): Meiko Satomura vs. Killer Kelly

Here's a place to follow along with the action and comment on the first episode of the 2018 Mae Young Classic (MYC) Women’s Tournament during its premiere, Weds., Sept. 5 at 9PM Eastern time on WWE Network.

In tonight’s round one action, joshi legend Meiko Satomura makes her WWE debut when she faces NXT UK’s Portuguese tough gal Killer Kelly and Tegan Nox looks to make the most of her second chance at MYC glory when she goes against Chile’s Zatara. We’ll also get a classic size vs. speed match-up when “The Mountain” Vanessa Kraven locks up with Lacey Lane, and one of last year’s standouts, Rhea Ripley, shows off her newly acquired mean-streak against new NXT recruit MJ Jenkins.

Heat wave blast, kids are screamin’, pavement’s hot, sidewalk’s steamin’; only me, happens every time. Thinkin’ ‘bout you and me, hello - goodbye! You can jazz it up or play it slow, it’s still the only song I know. It’s 2 a.m. and traffic’s slow, another ladies’s night in Buffalo, and also in Full Sail as I liveblog this here pro wrestling show for y’all, folks!

The show opens with a video recap of the first Mae Young Classic and a hype reel of all the competitor’s in this year’s edition of the tournament.

Michael Cole introduces his commentary partners, Beth Phoenix and Renee Young, and we get profiles for Tegan Nox and Zatara to set their match up.

Tegan Nox vs. Zatara

Circling, collar and elbow, Nox with a wristlock, Zatara reverses, to a backhammer, reversed back to the wristlock. Another reversal, Tegan takes it right back but Zatara cuts her off by kicking her leg out from under her. Nox gets a hammerlock after a bit of struggle, and the Chilean slips out and clocks her with a forearm! Putting her into the corner, charging in, up and over, deep arm drags from Nox and a headscissors takeover!

Dropkick sends Zatara to the floor, Tegan off the ropes, Tiger feint kick! Back in, the Chilean offers a handshake but it was a ruse for a front kick! Whip reversed, slide under leg pick, off the ropes with a guillotine leg drop! Pick the leg, roll her over, deathlock applied, she kneels, pulls Nox back by the hair before adjusting... CURB STOMP! Stomp to the hand, off the ropes, basement dropkick gets a two count!

Wrenching Tegan’s leg over the ropes, dropkick to the knee, pick the legs again, Prison Lock applied and she falls back to torque the knee! Nox makes the ropes in short order, shaky on her feet, off the ropes she ducks a lariat, forearms and uppercuts, big forearms, hammering her knee to get some life into it before charging in for an uppercut! To the apron, gamengiri connects, Tegan heads up top and hits the diving crossbody... NOT ENOUGH!

Zatara perched, she hits a missile dropkick, charging double knees in the corner... NOPE! Nox ducks a shot...

Tegan Nox wins by pinfall with the Shiniest Wizard.


We get video profiles for our next match before proceeding right into it.

MJ Jenkins vs. Rhea Ripley

Circling, Ripley with a pieface and an indignant Jenkins jaws at her before coming off ropes with an arm drag. Two more arm drags, MJ charges in, back body drop to the apron, big forearm, springboard... RHEA CUTS HER OFF WITH A DROPKICK THAT SENDS HER TO THE FLOOR! Throwing her back in, cover gets one, smashing her face into the mat, dropkick to the head, still not enough to keep her down!

Overhand club, disdainful knee to the face, Jenkins throwing forearms and Ripley smacks her back down. Whip, lariat connects but can’t put her away and gives way to more disdainful strikes. Throwing her into the corner, putting boots to her, following it up with a delayed vertical suplex for two! Standing Cobra Twist applied, adding an abdominal claw and scraping her forearm across MJ’s lower ribs in turn.

Jenkins counters with a hip toss, off the ropes and she eats a pop-up drop for two! Jawing, piefacing her again, clearly Rhea getting frustrated, and MJ lets out a primal scream! Huge uppercuts, a spinning backfist, lariat, back elbow, duck a larait, off the ropes with a shoulder block! Fired up, charging in, Ripley sidesteps, Jenkins ducks a return shot, enzuigiri, springboard missile dropkick... NOPE!

Rhea ducks a roundhouse kick...

Rhea Ripley wins by pinfall with a pumphandle powerbomb.


Again we get profiles of our competitors and go right into the next match.

Lacey Lane vs. Vanessa Kraven

Circling, Lane ducks the lockup and fires off a hamstring kick! Another one, Kraven forces her in the corner but Lacey uses her speed to try for pinning predicaments but she can’t get her off her feet! An upkick stuns her, forearm rush, Vanessa blasts out of the corner but again Lane turns the speed up, knuckle lock, double jump and Kraven shoves her away! Handspring kick takes her off the apron, cartwheel, superkick, diving crossbody... Kraven catches her and lawn darts her into the apron! Suplex lift into the Tree of Woe in the middle of the ropes and Mt. Kraven lands a pair overhand chops! Back inside, choking her in the corner, running cannonball... NOPE! Drawing Lacey up, big chop in the ropes, to the next section, another one, and she follows it with a Canadian backbreaker rack, wrenching it in!

Lane with elbows, slips out of it, Kraven goes for a chokebomb but Lacey slips out and takes her leg out. Roundhouse misses, solebutt connects, charging in, forearm, a knee, more forearms, whip denied and Vanessa shoves her away! Forearm, whip denied, Black Hole Slam connects... NOT ENOUGH! Back elbow up on the charge, knees on a second, Lane sidesteps the cannonball and again blasts Kraven with forearms.

Ducking punches, crucifix...

Shadia Bseiso interviews Natalya backstage.

Nattie says she’s excited to be here and it’s incredible to be surrounded by so many women that share a passion for wrestling and who inspire you to be better, so it’s a huge honor. Asked who she thinks is gonna win, she says she’s rooting for Mia Yim and Io Shirai.

One last time this episode, we get profiles of our competitors.

Killer Kelly vs. Meiko Satomura

Circling, Satomura probing with leg kicks and Kelly returning in kind. Knucklelock, legsweep into a keylock, Killer slips out, waistlock takedown, only good for one! Back to the lockup, Meiko with a side headlock, into the takeover, blocking the reversal on the first try but the second takes and Satomura bridges up before rolling around and slipping out into a Prison Lock.

Headbutt and forearms, back to the side headlock, reversed again, and we get a stalemate. Kelly with an inverted headlock, Meiko reverses into a chest kick, charges in, sidestepped, Killer off the ropes with a boot for two! Following it up, looking for the Romero Special but Satomura blocks. Whip across, springboard arm drag into a half-crab and she sits down into an STS!

Kelly makes the ropes in relatively short order, Meiko spins her around for forearms to the back of the head, follows it up with a side headlock takeover, shift to a wristlock, chest kicks, drawing her up, arm wringer and more chest kicks ensue! Arm wringer takedown, knee drop to the ribs for two! Killer catches a kick, delayed vertical suplex hits home but it’s only good for two!

Rolling solebutt, off the ropes, pump kick blocked, rolling solebutt and an uppercut, cartwheel knee drop connects and Satomura’s rolling! Dragging her into position, up top, Kelly cuts her off with a forearm, climbs up after her, looking for a spider German suplex, Meiko blocks... HANGING DRAGON SLEEPER! Killer sits back up, slips down, puts Meiko into the Tree of Woe and knocks her down with a kick.

Charging in, hesitation dropkick! Drawing Satomura up, bridging fisherman suplex... CAN’T QUITE PUT MEIKO SATOMURA AWAY! German suplex denied, Pele kick connects and Meiko rises to her feet like a goddess of war, ready to end it! Fireman’s carry...

Meiko Satomura wins by pinfall with a Death Valley Driver.
