WWE opened tonight’s (Sun., Sept. 16, 2018) Hell in a Cell pay-per-view (PPV) from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, with one of two Hell in a Cell matches. In this one, Jeff Hardy, at the age of 41 and over 20 years in the professional wrestling business, finally got the chance to wrestle inside the Cell against Randy Orton.
He promised he would do something we would never forget.
There were the usual Hardy spots, like:
There was also the call back to Orton terrorizing Hardy’s earlobe, where it’s pierced to the point of being open enough to put his finger through it. So he got a screwdriver this time, put it through the ear, and twisted it up.
It looked NASTY.
Hardy got his licks in to respond to it, whipping Orton with a belt on his back and literally making him bleed from it. He followed this up with a Swanton Bomb on a chair resting on top of Orton.
And that only got a two count.
Jeff’s next big move was to climb up a ladder, hang off it, swing to gain momentum, and then come crashing down on Orton, who was on a table. But Orton moved, and Jeff went crashing through the table.
The referee immediately called for help from the back, demanding they raise the Cell. Orton told him to do his job and count the pin and the referee, while reluctant, did so. That was that.
Orton wins, and Hardy is, thankfully, still alive, though we don’t know how well off he is now.
