With New Day already booked for Super Show-Down, does Rusev Day have a chance?

A giant Melbourne Cricket Ground cloud is cast over the Hell in a Cell kickoff match

So Rusev and Aiden English are finally getting a legitimate shot at the SmackDown tag team titles. Good! The problem is the WWE already booked The New Day versus The Bar at WWE Super Show-Down three weeks from now. Bad!

The story so far

Two of the blue brand’s longest tenured groups, the New Day and Rusev Day have crossed paths multiple times over the past several months. Almost one year ago, Rusev and English were not entertained by Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ Halloween costumes or their choice of candy.

In December, the teams met on more than one occasion, each shooting for a shot at The Usos. One week before Christmas, the teams met again with Rusev dressed as Santa, English as a snowman, Woods as a reindeer and Kingston as The Gingerbread Man.

The build to Hell in a Cell

Finally able to topple The Bludgeon Brothers on the SD Live after SummerSlam, The New Day were five-time tag team champions without a clear cut number one contender. Quick to sort out her division, SmackDown GM Paige put together a mini tournament involving six different teams.

The Bar downed The Good Brothers and The Colons in one triple threat match while Rusev Day got by The Usos and Sanity to meet one another in the finals just five days before Hell in a Cell.

The go-home show

In what has to be deemed an upset, Rusev and English gutted out a victory over Cesaro and Sheamus this past Tuesday night. The end of the match featured English sacrificing himself for the team, eating a Brogue Kick and allowing Rusev the time needed to pick up the win.

Over the past several months Rusev Day has seen it’s fair share of good, bad and ugly days. Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ four year run as The New Day doesn’t feel like it’s slowing down anytime soon.

With The New Day already scheduled to defend their tag team titles versus The Bar at Super Show-Down on Saturday, Oct. 6, it’s tough to find a scenario where Rusev and Aiden English rock the boat.

Maybe Rusev Day pulls off another upset and forces the WWE to turn The New Day vs. The Bar into a triple threat match in Australia?

Per our official WWE Shop Rusev “Happy Rusev Day” Calendar, Sunday is in fact Rusev Day, so maybe there is a glimmer of hope for The Bulgarian Brute and The Shakespeare of Song to make some magic happen at Hell in a Cell.

Tune into cSs for full bell-to-bell coverage of Hell in a Cell this Sunday starting at 6:00 p.m. ET with the Kickoff show leading right on into the main card at 7:00 p.m. ET.

On Sunday, what day will it be?
