The Biggest Party of the Summer continued for WWE and USA Network on Tues., Aug. 21.
SmackDown‘s numbers shot up, as you’d expect coming out of a major event like SummerSlam. The blue brand had its largest audience since just after WrestleMania 34 and the Superstar Shakeup at 2,437,000. It was only the 13th most watched cable originals on the night, but the legal news regarding President Trump’s associates earlier in the day made for a huge night for the news/talk shows on Fox News and MSNBC.
WWE did win the night in demographic share, posting a .77 among 18 - 49 year olds - SmackDown’s best number in that category since the Money in the Bank fallout episode back in June.
Following the blue brand, Miz & Mrs. drew its third biggest audience ever at 1,235,000 viewers, up 73K from last week. Its rating slipped slightly, from .51 to .5, tied for third with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow - who had the biggest audience on cable for the night.
We’ll see if viewers’ appetite for sports entertainment programming is still as good another week removed from a big show.
