NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4 results: Kairi Sane defeats Shayna Baszler for the Women’s Title

Shayna Baszler had her whole crew at ringside, with even Ronda Rousey taking time out of her preparations for her Raw Women’s Title shot tomorrow (Aug. 19) at SummerSlam to come and support her fellow (MMA) Horsewoman.

It wasn’t enough to overcome her Mae Young Classic nemesis, Kairi Sane.

In the build to NXT TakeOver, the Queen of Spades told anyone who’d listen she was a different wrestler than the one who was defeated by Sane in Las Vegas last fall. The Pirate Princess lacked the killer instinct necessary to take the NXT Women’s Championship from her.

It looked like she was right, as after Kairi showed some early fire, Baszler went to work on her leg. Having the fan favorite Rousey in the crowd didn’t help, and the fans in Barclays Center booed Shayna as she inflicted pain on her smaller opponent.

The champ looked like she wouldn’t say die, no matter what. She survived all of the Japanese Superstar’s finishing moves, kicking out of the InSane Elbow...

... and countering and making the ropes to break The Anchor submission. When she tried to counter it one last time into her Kirifuda Clutch, however, Kairi had her scouted. She rolled through to pin Baszler’s shoulders to the mat.

Sane won the rubber match, and now she’s the NXT Women’s Champ.
