SummerSlam is just as notable for who isn’t on the card this year

We’re just a couple days away from WWE holding its latest SummerSlam pay-per-view from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The show is scheduled to run for roughly six hours, and there are 13 matches booked. That’s without even mentioning that Elias will be doing a “concert” during the show.

It’s notable, then, that this is a short list of wrestlers who are not currently booked for the card:

• Cesaro
• Sheamus
• Asuka
• Bayley
• Sasha Banks
• Nia Jax
• The Usos
• Bobby Lashley
• Woken Matt Hardy
• Bray Wyatt
• Randy Orton
• Bobby Roode
• SAnitY
• Jinder Mahal
• John Cena
• Undertaker

This isn’t a criticism of WWE and its inability to make use of its extensive roster of talent but rather a clear indicator that WWE currently enjoys an embarrasment of riches with said extensive roster of talent. I didn’t even list everyone who isn’t on the show! There’s still the likes of the Riott Squad, Titus Worldwide, The Authors of Pain, Mickie James, Alicia Fox, Chad Gable, and many more!

They could, quite literally, put together an entirely separate card with just the talent who aren’t working SummerSlam and it be a viable viewing option.

Just imagine if they actually do start raiding talent from competitors who are gaining traction.
