Seth Rollins not a fan of rumored Rock vs. Reigns WrestleMania main event

WWE.com

It is never too early to talk about WrestleMania.

Set to challenge Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental title at SummerSlam this Sunday, Seth Rollins has hit the media rounds this week to promote the match-up. During the course of one particular in-depth interview, the names of The Rock and Roman Reigns were brought up to The Kingslayer.

Not just brought up, but used in the context of the two superstars having a main event match together at the WWE’s biggest show of the year. Rollins wasn’t really feeling the question but gave a great answer anyway.

In a new interview with Sports Illustrated, Rollins addresses the long talked about rumors of The Rock returning to the WWE before WrestleMania 35 and challenging Reigns for the Universal title.

SI: There’s a rumor that at WrestleMania, it’s going to be Roman Reings vs. The Rock. When you hear that, what’s the first thing that pops into your head?

SR: I’d like it to be Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins.

SI: What about Seth Rollins vs. The Rock?

SR: That’s cool, too. Don’t get me wrong. I love Rocky. I think he’s great. Love everything he’s done for this business. But my gut, my first instinct, says we don’t need him. We don’t need him. If we’re not the guys who can main event WrestleMania, then how are we ever gonna be The Rock? How are we gonna be Stone Cold Steve Austin? We can’t hold onto these guys forever. We just can’t. To me, let’s do Seth Rollins-Roman Reigns before we do Seth Rollins-The Rock. That’s me.

Rollins is right.

Just some quick research shows that the last seven WrestleMania main events have be co-headlined by some form of part time wrestler. Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H, Batista or The Rock have all helped close out the WrestleMania main event since 2012.

In order to build stars to carry your company for years to come, you have to let them shine.

Roman Reigns has been in the WrestleMania main event for the last four years, will that streak continue in 2019? And will the WWE let a full-time wrestler share the main event with Reigns at WrestleMania 35?
