WWE’s unveiled another batch of competitors for the 2018 Mae Young Classic, bringing us 6 (or 5, if you follow NXT spoilers) shy of knowing the entire field.
The headliner of today’s group is the latest Japanese star in this year’s tournament, Hiroyo “Lady Destroyer” Matsumoto. Matsumoto has been wrestling for more than a decade, primarily in her home country but with occassional overseas excursions - including one which resulted in a Shimmer Tag Title win back in 2011. She’s also been successful in pairs and trios in Japan, including as a three-time Artist of Stardom champ (once alongside NXT’s Dakota Kai). WWE is hyping the 32 year old’s “power and technical proficiency”.
Joining her is Florida’s Aerial Monroe, who just made wrestling site headlines for her wedding - to WWE Cruiserweight Champ Cedric Alexander. The U.S. Air Force vet goes by the nickname “Big Swole” and, despite her first name, is primarily known for her striking.
No one will be confused by 6’ 2” Vanessa “The Mountain” Kraven’s game. Known throughout Canada and on prominent indies like Shimmer and Shine, the Montreal native likes to finish opponents with a two-handed sit-out chokeslam.
