Charlotte Flair is back.
After weeks of being out of action while she recovered from surgery, Flair was their to make the save in the opening segment of this week’s episode of SmackDown. The show opened with Becky Lynch cutting a great babyface promo about grinding her way back to a title shot.
Lynch was eventually interrupted by her SummerSlam opponent Carmella who strolled to the ring to cut her own fantastic babyface promo.
Yes, Mella grabbed the mic and opened up her heart about her struggles climbing through the WWE ranks. As her eyes began to water, Carmella admitted she was jealous of Lynch and always was insecure about being one step behind the Irish Lass Kicker.
Just when it looked like Carmella’s redemption story was ready to be written, the entrance music of James Ellsworth hit and the Smackdown women’s champion laid out a distracted Lynch.

Ellsworth never appeared but Carmella continued her barrage on Lynch until she reached under the ring and pulled out a steel chair. Before Mella could weaponize her attack, Flair’s music hit and she sprinted down to the ring to lay out the champ.

Post-match, SmackDown GM Paige informed Carmella would meet Charlotte Flair in a match later in the night and if the champ lost her SummerSlam match with Becky Lynch would turn into a triple threat.
