WWE says Bludgeon Brothers broke Kane’s ankle at Extreme Rules

Team Hell No’s return took a disappointing turn at Extreme Rules on July 15, and it began well before their SmackDown Tag Team Championship match. Bludgeon Brothers attacked both Kane and Daniel Bryan backstage, including taking one of their signature hammers to Kane’s leg.

It definitely affected the match when it did happen, as Bryan was left to go it alone for much of the contest. His partner appeared in a walking boot to try and even things up, but clearly at less than 100%, he wasn’t much help.

Turns out, not only did DB take a pin and Team Hell No leave Pittsburgh without tag gold, but Kane is leaving town with a broken ankle.

Per WWE:

“At WWE Extreme Rules, Kane suffered an injury at the hands of The Bludgeon Brothers. Despite returning to action to help his Team Hell No tag team partner Daniel Bryan, X-rays taken on The Devil’s Favorite Demon later revealed that he has suffered a broken ankle.”

There were some whispers earlier in the day that Kane/Glenn Jacobs was seen around PPG Paints Arena in a boot already, so the angle might have been run to cover an existing injury. More rumors on that will surely follow.

For now, we’ll send our best to The Devil’s Favorite Mayoral Candidate, and wonder what’s next for Daniel Bryan.
