In closing arguments this morning, the lawyer for WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann asked the Cook County, Illinois jury hearing his defamation case against CM Punk and Colt Cabana for $3,989,000 in compensatory damages for his client.
According to Chicago Tribune’s Gregory Pratt and WrestleZone’s Nick Hausmann, they arrived at that figure by asking for $1 for each tangible stream of the November 2014 episode of Cabana’ The Art of Wrestling podcast. That’s where Punk made the claims about an untreated staph infection Amann is suing over.
This helps to explain the focus on questioning Cabana earlier in the trial about the episode’s traffic numbers.
Amann is also seeking punitive damages.
The 90 minute closing statement from the plaintiff’s side closed the morning session in court on June 5. Attorneys for Punk and Cabana will finish their case this afternoon. The judge has said she expects jury deliberation to begin today.
