Asuka failed to win the SmackDown women’s championship from Carmella at Money in the Bank earlier this month due in part to James Ellsworth making his return and providing a distraction. That, then, is reason enough to give her a rematch, according to SmackDown General Manager Paige.
Indeed, she made it official during this week’s episode of SmackDown Live, announcing Asuka will challenge Carmella once again at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view scheduled for Sun., July 15, 2018, at the PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
She’ll get a shot at James Ellsworth first, as the two will wrestle on SmackDown next week.
Here’s the updated Extreme Rules match card:
- AJ Styles (c) vs. Rusev (WWE championship)
- Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax (Raw women’s championship)
- Carmella (c) vs. Asuka (SmackDown women’s championship)
- The Deleters of Worlds (c) vs. The B-Team (Raw tag team championship)
