There’s precedent for WWE using their annual licensed game from 2K Studios as a way to bring someone back into the fold. The first wrestler not currently under contract announced for the upcoming 2K19 edition isn’t as surprising a name as Ultimate Warrior, Sting or Goldberg. He’s already made a couple of in-ring appearances for WWE this year and has been openly sharing his contract negotiations with the public.
Still, Rey Mysterio being announced as one of two pre-order exclusive bonus characters for the game feels like another step toward his eventual signing a new contract with Vince McMahon.
Will it happen? Is demand for it still as high as it was when he returned at Royal Rumble this past January?
Discuss while perusing the official announcement of his inclusion in WWE 2K19, which gives you all the pertinent details about how to hit a virtual 6-1-9 as soon as possible:
The Master of the 619 is making his way back into the virtual WWE Universe.
2K announced Rey Mysterio will make his long-awaited return to WWE video games as a WWE 2K19 Pre-Order Bonus character. The world-renowned video game publisher confirmed Mysterio’s involvement with an official trailer that first aired last night during Raw.
In a press release, 2K also announced that Mysterio will be one of two Pre-Order Bonus characters for WWE 2K19. Details on the second Pre-Order Bonus offering will be announced later this summer.
To gain access to Mysterio, players must pre-order their copy of WWE 2K19 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC. They will then gain access to The Ultimate Underdog as a playable character, dressed in ring gear inspired by what he wore for his surprise return during the 2018 Royal Rumble Match.
Mysterio, who will be making his first appearance in a WWE video game in four years, is now the second Superstar confirmed to appear in WWE 2K19. He joins AJ Styles, who was recently named the WWE 2K19 cover Superstar.
WWE 2K19 is not yet rated by the ESRB and is scheduled for worldwide release on Tuesday, Oct. 9.
