A report from PWInsider says Sami Zayn is headed to Birmingham, Alabama to get an injury checked out by Dr. James Andrews and his team. Multiple sources tell Mike Johnson that the former NXT Champ’s been working through something. His one-sided loss to Bobby Lashley at Money in the Bank this past Sun., June 18 was his last planned date before time off to address the issue. The site says they’ve been unable to confirm the exact nature of the injury, so at this point, there’s no way to know how long Zayn may be out.
Hopefully, he gets some good news from the doctor, but this is one of those stories where once you hear it, other things fall into place.
Even before getting squashed while feigning vertigo in Allstate Arena last weekend, Sami was rarely involved in anything physical during the build to his match with Lashley. Bringing out fake sisters and taunting Bobby into running an obstacle course could very well have been cover for a lingering injury.
Zayn was not on Raw last night (June 18), and Kevin Owens made a comment in a promo about being “unsure when he’d see his best friend again” after the beating he took from Lashley. That could be further cover for time off.
We’ll hope the word from Dr. Andrews is good, and that Sami is only out for a short time. And keep you posted as soon as we hear anything else.
