WWE Money in the Bank 2018 results: James Ellsworth’s return helps Carmella beat Asuka, retain SmackDown women’s title

With so much of the SmackDown women’s division tied up in the Money in the Bank ladder match, it seemed Carmella wouldn’t have a challenger for her SmackDown women’s championship. Then, General Manager Paige revealed Asuka was waiting in the wings, and she would challenge for it at tonight’s (Sun., June 17, 2018) WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view (PPV) at the Allstate Arena just outside Chicago, Illinois.

Carmella opened by taunting Asuka:

Then, when she was caught, she tried to take her title and run away. The “Empress of Tomorrow” made sure she couldn’t leave, but, surprisingly enough, ‘Mella took control from there. She was given a lot of offense and Asuka was doing a ton of selling.

Carmella started melting down when she tried to put the challenger away and couldn’t do so.

Then, suddenly, someone dressed up wearing an Asuka mask got up on the apron and froze her. She was mesmerized by it and kept staring. Finally, the mask came off and it was James Ellsworth. He gave an exaggerated wink, which gave Carmella time to hit the Princess Kick to score the pin and win the match.
