A Title Match on the Pre-show?

SmackDown Tag Team Championship match

Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs. The Bludgeon Brothers (c)

It’s gonna take more than a couple of ab-skis to take out Bray’s b*tches.

The Road to Money in the Bank

The Bludgeon Brothers have been on a tear since their reemergence on SmackDown Live last November. What else is there to say? They destroyed local competition, tenured tag teams, and crashed the party on the New Day and Usos to win the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at WrestleMania in dominating fashion.

No one has come close to defeating the duo in months. The Bludgeon Brothers speak softly and carry a large stick hammer.

The Usos lost their rematch to the champions in a short match in Saudi Arabia that really wasn’t much of a match at all – and when they were forced to fight for their right at another shot, the Club stepped up, locked the Usos down, and threw away the key.

Sounds good, right? An unstoppable team versus a charismatic duo. Well…if only.

For whatever reason, this feud hasn’t gotten much air time on SmackDown Live. If you’re a fan of tag team wrestling, that has to be a shame. In the lead up to Money in the Bank, we’ve seen a short promo segment and a singles match between Karl “Abs” Anderson and Harper. Anderson was able to use that impressive core strength to sneak a roll up for the victory.

This feud got no love on the go home show to Money in the Bank, but the teams have taken to Twitter to further their feud. Harper typed up a creepy tweet asking after Anderson’s wife and Anderson…well. He was once called the Machine Gun for a reason, you know.

What’s at stake?

For the Bludgeon Brothers, the reality is that they’ve dominated the New Day, the Usos, and some lower card tag teams. But is that enough to truly call them monsters or an unstoppable force in the tag division? For the hammered duo, they need a win to solidify their dominance in a tag division that saw a lot of turnover in April.

For The Club, they have drifted between brands and Club leaders for a while now while accomplishing nothing of import. They’re an entertaining pair, but they need a victory to reestablish their spot on the roster and to help add levity if AJ Styles ever needs their help.

And yet…it’s a pre-show match. Hopefully this is just the first chapter of something larger between The Club and the Bludgeon Brothers, but it’s still hard to get too excited about a pre-show match.
