AJ Styles hasn’t wrestled in weeks, won’t wrestle on Money in the Bank ‘go home’ SmackDown, either

WWE.com

It was announced a few minutes ago that WWE Champion AJ Styles will be interviewed by WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler on the June 12 SmackDown.

That’s not too surprising. Keeping the Titleholder out of action on the ‘go home’ show before a pay-per-view (PPV) event is standard operating procedure, and the blue brand is in The King’s court of Memphis for their last show before Money in the Bank. Letting Lawler ask AJ about his Last Man Standing match with Shinsuke Nakamura this weekend in Chicago is a pretty typical way to go about things.

What makes it interesting is that Styles was again held off house shows last weekend. The Phenomenal One hasn’t wrestled since just after WWE got back from Europe, when he and Nakamura worked the post-205 Live dark match in Worcester, Massachusetts on May 22.

There haven’t been any specific rumors about injuries, so hopefully the company is just giving their Champ, who just turned 41 on June 2, some downtime to rest. We’ll wait to interpret what, if anything, he gets involved in tonight beyond just chatting with The King before we start reading anything into his layoff.

You can feel free to begin speculating now, though.
