The field for the second ever Mae Young Classic is beginning to take shape. Earlier in the week, Japanese wrestling superstar Io Shirai was signed by the WWE and today (May 31) the worlds biggest wrestling promotion added another signing to their roster.
A new report says that the WWE has brought in former Ring of Honor and TNA mainstay Deonna Purrazzo into the fold. Nicknamed The Virtuosa, Purrazzo was last seen competing for Impact Wrestling in 2017 and also was a part of ROH’s Women of Honor Championship tournament earlier in the year.
Squared Circle Sirens was the first to report the signing.
We can confirm that WWE has signed 23-year-old Deonna Purrazzo to a developmental contract with the company. She will be reporting to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida in a few weeks.
Prior to the report, Purrazzo was scheduled for both September’s All In super-show as well as Chris Jericho’s Rock N Wrestling cruise in October.
Only 23-years-old, Purrazzo was an alternate in for the first Mae Young Classic and has already made various one off appearances in the WWE. The New Jersey native appeared as one of Adam Rose’s Rosebuds, lost to Asuka in a NXT squash match and competed a battle royal to determine the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship back in 2016.
As the WWE continues to gear up for this summer’s Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network, what other women’s wrestling stars will they bring into the promotion?
