Ricochet vs. Velveteen Dream! Aleister Black vs. Lars Sullivan! The TakeOver: Chicago card takes shape

New, 8 comments

In a voiceover to open NXT’s May 30 episode, Mauro Ranallo teased the possibility of big news for the black-and-yellow brand’s next live special, June 16’s TakeOver: Chicago 2. Turns out it was a lot more than just a tease, as the several matches were made and the card now looks to be set for Allstate Arena.

We’ve known the Street Fight stipulation for Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa’s rematch. While we don’t know for sure that Ciampa has returned his signed contract for the bout to General Manager William Regal, we saw Gargano publicly submit his at Full Sail. Ranallo and WWE.com say it’s on, so...

Before that happened, Lars Sullivan interrupted NXT Champion Aleister Black to tell him Regal’d named him #1 contender. He closed the segment by planting Black with a Freak Accident and holding up the title:

Things understandably remained tense Velveteen Dream and Ricochet after Dream attacked The One And Only while they were partners on last Wednesday’s episode. They decided to settle things their “anything you can do, I can do better” issues (but probably not their unspoken desires) in Chi-town during a segment which ended with Ricochet actually doing something that left Velveteen speechless...

And while it’s not official yet, Nikki Cross definitely let Women’s Champ Shayna Baszler know she wants a match. And not the kind she forced Dakota Kai to referee in Full Sail - a real one, presumably at TakeOver:

Assuming that one gets booked, this very well may be your final TakeOver: Chicago 2 card for Sat., June 16:

- Johnny Gargano vs. Tommaso Ciampa in a Street Fight
- Aleister Black (c) vs. Lars Sullivan for the NXT Championship
- Nikki Cross vs. Shayna Baszler (c) for the Women’s Title
- Undisputed ERA (Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly) (c) vs. Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan for the Tag Team Championship
- Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet

This leaves off Adam Cole and his North American Title, EC3, War Raiders, Pete Dunne and the rest of the UK Championship scene (although they have shows two days after TakeOver) and a host of others.

Let us know what you think about the line-up.
