WWE confirms Randy Orton recently underwent knee surgery

Well this is kind of OUT OF NOWHERE!

WWE.com

It’s secret surgery season in WWE.

A day after announcing Shane McMahon was finally operated on for a hernia he’s had since before WrestleMania, the company’s website today (May 18) confirmed reports which have been floating around the wrestling web about Randy Orton.

The Viper recently underwent “successful surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee”. The WWE.com story quotes Orton as saying, “I’ve known I needed the surgery since late last year, but I’ve been waiting for the right time to get my knee cleaned out. Right now was the right time.”

It also notes that while he’s currently home recuperating, he says he’s “staying motivated to come back and dominate the blue brand.”

Orton’s last match was a Backlash loss to Jeff Hardy on May 6. WWE doesn’t mention whether the tear was partial or complete, which would tell us where his rehabilitation time would fall on the spectrum from 1 - 3 months. According to a story on wrestlingnews.co which reported the surgery before the company did, however, Orton is expected back in July and should be fine for SummerSlam.
