So, as promised all week while John Cena was using the show to cut promos about how much he loves her, Nikki Bella showed up with sister Brie on Today this morning (May 16).
And... do we have to? Yesterday’s post got how many hits? Damn it...
They play a clip from Total Bellas which shows the twins discussing/arguing about Nikki’s wedding planning with Cena. Then Kathie Lee and Hoda say they weren’t expecting that and, oh my gosh, they were told they’re not even supposed to bring up the relationship! Then they ask her about Cena’s professing his undying love and desire to be a dad from Monday.
Nikki says:
“I was so shocked. I literally was in the middle of the red carpet for the NBCUniversal upfronts and got the breaking news. I mean, John — and you guys know this — he is absolutely an amazing man, such a sweetheart, and I truly love him so much. He’s my best friend.
I think a lot of us that go through the wedding planning process, I think we kinda have to face — and get forced to face — all of these issues that we have just hiding deep down inside.
I just know that a healthy me will be a healthy us. I do have hope for our future, but I know right now I need to work on me. Before I do say those vows and walk down that aisle, I just don’t want to be hesitant. I don’t want to be regretful.
I definitely have hope. I really do.”
Okay, look. Most people will be more surprised at this point if it turns out this isn’t an angle being done to promote the Bellas’ E! reality show franchises. And you can feel about that however you feel about that.
But if it is what we think it is... let’s look at it as kayfabe. It’s being handled with less subtlety than Alexa Bliss forgetting there are cameras on her while she body-shames Nia Jax. And even if the story felt real, Nikki isn’t a good enough actress to pull this off.
Cena works as a leading man in Hollywood now, and he’s barely better.
Anyway, this might all stop when Total Bellas premieres on Sunday. But I doubt it.
