The Showcase of The Immortals brought out some big names to open the main portion of the card in New Orleans’ Superdome on Sun., April 8. Starting with Seth Rollins (and some glowing blue contacts), Miz (and some wacky glasses) and Finn Bálor (with a stage full of LGBT fans sporting his inclusion-friendly Club shirts) for the Intercontinental Title.
Entering second, new father The Miz sent Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel to the back so he could “do this the right way”.
Bálor made the early splash, taking the defending champ and Rollins down with a dive.

But while Finn fought Miz, Seth recovered and answered back with a leap of his own back into the ring, then flattening both his rivals with a double blockbuster. For The A-Lister, it wasn’t big moves so much as his attitude. The Raw announce team of Michael Cole, Corey Graves and Jonathan Coachman emphasized how the heel wasn’t looking to cut corners, but was instead focused on the task at hand - outwrestling The Extraordianary Man and The Kingslayer.
A dragonscrew leg whip on Bálor set up the Figure Four, and it looked like Miz might retain to set the record for most-cumulative time with the IC Title. But a frog splash from Rollins kept the match alive.
Seth and Finn called back to the first ever Universal Championship match again, teasing a buckle bomb like the one which put the Irishman on the shelf for months shortly after his call-up. But Bálor slipped out and delivered a missle drop kick that blasted both competitors into the barricade. 1916 got a nearfall on Rollins back in the ring, and Miz found himself on the receiving end of a buckle bomb before The Architect gave Finn a superplex.
The action was fast and furious as the trio sought to set the tone for WrestleMania with moves off the top and false finishes. The end came after a Coup De Grace from Bálor on Miz, followed by a Curb Stomp that sent Finn’s head into the champ’s. Seth hit his finisher on just Miz after that, and The Shield had another Grand Slam Champion.
As the one and only @HowardFinkel would say...
